University Spotlight: NUS — Virtual Tour Guide

I'm delighted to share the first edition of the University Virtual Tour Series — a curated resource to help your child explore some of the world's leading universities from the comfort of home, before making one of the most important decisions of their life. Students from both the CBSE and Cambridge programmes will find this resource relevant — NUS accepts both qualifications.
I strongly recommend that parents of Grade 9 and above students make the time to visit at least one university — NUS, a local university in India, or any institution of your choice. A physical visit gives your child something no virtual tour can replicate: they will see the infrastructure and facilities with their own eyes, observe how professors engage with students in live classrooms, and most importantly, spend time talking to existing students about their day-to-day experience. These conversations almost always leave a lasting impression and help students make more grounded, confident decisions about their future. A local university visit is a completely valid and valuable starting point. If you'd like guidance planning a visit, feel free to get in touch.

Why Should Your Child Consider NUS?
1. Ranked #10 Globally — The Only Asian University in the World Top 10
NUS holds the tenth position globally in the QS World University Rankings 2027 (released June 2026) — the most recently published edition. Note: NUS ranked #8 in both QS 2025 and QS 2026. The 2027 edition marks a slight drop of two places, while it retains its status as the sole Asian university in the global top 10 — a position it has held consistently. A degree from NUS is recognised by employers in Singapore, India, Europe, and the United States, carrying immediate global credibility.
2. Location — Singapore as a Gateway to Global Opportunity
Singapore is one of the safest, most stable cities in the world, with direct flights from Chennai, Bengaluru, and Mumbai. For Indian students, it offers a significant Indian community, a multilingual environment, and world-class public infrastructure — making the transition from home genuinely comfortable. Singapore also allows international students to work part-time during term, adding practical exposure alongside academics.
3. Future-Ready Programmes Aligned to Tomorrow's Careers
NUS spans Computer Science, AI, Data Science, Business, Law, Architecture, and Medicine. Its emphasis on interdisciplinary learning and industry partnerships ensures graduates are career-ready from day one — consistently ranked among the most sought-after in Asia (QS Graduate Employability Rankings 2024). Students also benefit from a rich network of over 300,000 NUS alumni active across 150 countries.
4. Financial Support Available for Indian Students
The MOE Tuition Grant is open to all international students, including Indians, and subsidises tuition fees substantially. In exchange, students sign a 3-year bond to work with a Singapore-registered company after graduation. This is not merely an obligation — Singapore's graduate employment market is one of the most active in Asia, and most NUS graduates receive job offers before completing their degree. Fresh NUS graduates averaged SGD 5,193 gross monthly salary in 2025 (NUS Graduate Employment Survey 2025, published March 2026). The NUS International Undergraduate Scholarship is open to citizens of all countries except Singapore (Indian students are eligible), covering full subsidised tuition fees plus living, accommodation, and travel allowances. Eligible students are auto-considered through their NUS admission application.
What Parents Should Know
- Total annual cost (tuition + living): approximately SGD 25,000–40,000 (~INR 18–29 lakhs at ~SGD 72/INR, June 2026) depending on programme and housing; MOE Tuition Grant reduces the tuition component substantially
- Acceptance is highly competitive — an estimated 5–8% acceptance rate for international students; grades alone are not sufficient; co-curricular record and a well-written application matter equally
- Singapore has one of the highest graduate employment rates in the world — fresh NUS graduates averaged SGD 5,193 gross monthly salary in 2025
- A vibrant Indian diaspora ensures your child has community, familiar food, and Tamil cultural organisations from day one on campus
- Singapore entry requires a Student's Pass (not a visa) — applied online through ICA's SOLAR system within two weeks of receiving your NUS offer letter; NUS International Student Services Office provides full guidance on the process
To discuss NUS admission strategy, scholarship eligibility, and subject pathway planning for your child, feel free to write to me at pcmadankumar@gmail.com or get in touch via the contact page. I'm happy to set up a one-on-one session at a time convenient for you.
I curate University Virtual Tour resources as part of my commitment to helping students and parents make informed post-secondary decisions. Future editions will continue to spotlight leading universities across major study destinations worldwide, including the UK, USA, Australia, Canada, India, and Singapore.
Best wishes,
Madan Kumar PC
